Temple Beth Ora - Traditional Values -- Contemporary Focus

Overview

TBO is a small congregation affiliated with URJ with a growing membership. Three families started our congregation in 1979 to create a Reform presence in Edmonton. Originally, Shabbat services were held twice a month in people's homes. The congregation quickly outgrew the walls of the living room and found a home in the Jewish Community Centre.

We are committed to egalitarianism and encourage involvement from people of all ages and we also welcome members from interfaith families.

About Reform Judaism

Reform Judaism traces its roots back to the 17th and 18th centuries in Europe, although its greatest growth has been in North America since the 1800s. Reform Judaism endorses the principle of informed choice. We believe that learning and making choices about worship are integral to Jewish worship and we encourage healthy discussion and debate. For online information on Reform Judaism in North America, please visit URJ's website.

Worship Services
Services are held on Shabbat evenings and holy days at the Chesed Shel Emeth Sanctuary (see Location). Both Hebrew and English are used, and we are using the recently-published Mishkan T'filah prayerbook, which includes transliteration for the 'Hebraically challenged'. We offer a wide variety of services that include traditional Friday evening services, a monthly Family service, a monthly Saturday Shabbat morning service, and a Tot Shabbat service, as well as creative services and guest speakers. Our services are led by Rabbi Carmit Harari. Following each service is an Oneg Shabbat, giving everyone a chance to enjoy good food and good company. For service times, please check the Events page, call our office, or send an e-mail.

Music
Music is a central part of our worship. Chavurat HaShir (The Singing Friends) released their first CD of Jewish religious music in 2001.

Location
Services at Temple Beth Ora are held at the Chesed Shel Emeth Chapel, at 12313 105th Avenue in Edmonton. The map on the right shows the location of Temple Beth Ora.
